      The Objective 

      The Course of Civil Engineering (Certified Builder) is designed to cultivate students with theories and knowledges, regulations and practices, and technology and skills in relation to the design, construction, decoration and commissioning of civil engineering projects such as railways, highways, houses, bridges, tunnels and underground works and develop students to be a nationally certified builder.

      Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

      Students who complete the Course will be able to acquire, appreciate and apply the theories and knowledges, regulations and practices, and technology and skills to civil engineering that are required to be a certified builder. 


      The Course contains the theories and practices in structural mechanics, material mechanics, structural mechanics, building materials, architectural drawing, soil mechanics and foundation, concrete structure, concrete structure design, steel structure design, building structure aseismics as well as the technologies and skills in the analysis and design of engineering structure, construction technology and management, engineering economic analysis and engineering measurement, and project management and engineering supervision.

      Core Units 

      First Year: Engineering Drawing, Mechanical Theories, Building Materials, Introduction to Civil Engineering, Engineering Economics, Material Mechanics, Housing Architecture 

      Second Year: Engineering Surveying, Architectural Drawing and CAD, Structural Mechanics, Civil Engineering Construction Technology, Building Physics, Soil Mechanics and Foundation, Concrete Structure Principles, Civil Engineering Construction 

      Third Year: Engineering Project Management, Concrete Structure Design, Pprinciples of Steel Structure, Construction Engineering Measurement and Evaluation, Contract Management and Bidding, Bridge Engineering, Engineering Project Management, Concrete Structure Design, Principles of Steel Structure  

      Fourth Year: Business Research, Production Practice, Graduation Practice, and Graduation Thesis


      The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.   


      The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.


      Bachelor of Engineering will be awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation. 

      Career Prospects 

      Graduates could seek a career as a certified builder, project planner, structural engineer, supervision engineer, construction engineer or project manager for companies of transportation, municipal administration, engineering quality inspection and supervision department, construction, roads and bridges supervision, engineering survey and design, real estate development, construction, road-and-bridge construction and the related agencies or government departments.
