      Mechanical and Electronic (Mechatronic) Engineering

      The Objective

      The Course of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering is designed to cultivate students with theories and practices, knowledge and skills, regulations and standards in the area of mechanical and electronic engineering and develop students to be an engineer in the integrated area of mechanical and electronic engineering. The Course is articulated with that of Western Sydney University, Australia, where students could study for 2 years in China and 2 years in Australia to obtain double degrees and is articulated with Edith Cowan University, Australia, where students could study for 2 years in China and 3 years in Australia to obtain one degree from China and another degree with honours from Australia. The Australia’s degrees are accredited by the Australian Association of Engineers. 

      Knowledge, Skill and Capabilities

      Students who complete the Course will be able to understand and appreciate the theories and practices, acquire knowledge and skills and comply with regulations and standards in the mechanical and electronic engineering and to apply the theoretical knowledge and principles to mechatronical design, manufacturing, testing and development of various types of mechatronical products and systems.

      Content

      The Course contains the theories and skills for designing, manufacturing, and development of mechanical control system, automatic control system, control circuit system, mechatronic system, vibratory feeding system or robotic system. The Course is of 4-year duration including years of study in Australia.

      Units

      Core Units: Engineering Drawing and CAD, Mechanical Design, Fundamentals of Circuits, Analog Digital Electronics, Electromechanical Control, Micro Controller Application, Mechanical and Electrical Integration System, Servo Drive and CNC System I, Engineering Mechanics and CAE, Mechanical Manufacturing  

      Units in Major: Electromechanical Control Technology, Microcontroller Application Technology, Mechatronics System design, Servo Drive and CNC System II. 

      Practicum Units: Metalworking Practice, Mechanical Parts Mapping, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Manufacturing Technology and Fixture, CAD Engineering Project, NC Machining, Maintenance Electrician, NC Machining and Processing, Production (Professional) Practice, Graduation Practice, Graduation Thesis. 

      Delivery

      The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.   

      Assessments

      The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.

      Award

      Bachelor of Engineering will be awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation. 

      Career Prospects

      Graduates could seek a career in the industries of mechanical manufacturing to undertake the tasks of design, manufacturing, operation, and maintenance of mechatronic equipments and machines, including artificial  intelligence devices such as robot or CNC machine tools as well as the tasks of quality inspection of mechanical and electrical products, the organization and management of workshop production, technical service and product marketing. The corresponding positions are: structural engineer, mechanical engineer, process engineer, electrical engineer, electronic engineer, maintenance engineer, mechanical and electrical engineer, sales representative, and after-sale engineer.
