      Robotic Engineering

      Course Code:

      The Objective

The Course of Robotic Engineering is designed to cultivate students with theories and knowledge, standards and processes, practices and skills in the area of robotic engineering and develop students to be an engineer in robotic industry.

      Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities

Students who complete the Course will be able to integrate the theories and knowledge the five fields, namely, mechanical design, electrical technology, computer technology, automatic control and robotic programming,  possess mechantronic control ability such as the programming and simulation of industrial robots, the design of robot assembly, the operation and application of robots, and the integrated production technology such as field programming of industry robot.

      Content

The Course contains the theories and practices in 1) the development of six-axis industrial robot (a project co-completed by the teachers and students in the Innovation Center) which is a transport device under the controlling of the stepping motor through the mechanism design and software programming; 2) the design of general manipulator of the toy injection molding machine (a graduation design against a real problem from enterprise) which is the mechanical structure of the pneumatic driving mode with cylinder parameters and photoelectric sensor for detecting using an inductive sensor and magnetic sensor for rotating the induction robots and using PLC Programming to control operation.

Core Units: Modular-based C Language Programming, Electrical and Electronic Technology, Control Engineering, Mechatronic Control, Sensor and Detection Technology, Industrial Robot Programming, Artificial Intelligence Design, PLC Technology and Application, Robot Vision Measurement and Control, Industrial Robotic Packaging Technology.

Practicum Units: Metalworking, Electrician Practice, Electronic Circuit Integration, Artificial Intelligence Design, Mechatronic Control Design, PLC Technology Application, Robot off-line Programming and Simulation, Robot Control System, Robot System Integration, Production Practice, Graduation Practice and Graduation Design/Thesis

      Delivery

The Course is delivered in lectures, tutorials, workshops, and practicum laboratories in the first 3 years on-campus and internship in the fourth year in companies off-campus or abroad.

      Assessments

The Course will be assessed by progressive learning tasks, final examination and graduation thesis/dissertation.

      Award

Bachelor of Engineering will be awarded to those who meet the requirements of graduation.

      Career Prospects

Graduates could seek a career in robot engineering involving system debugging, electrical control, system design and application, system research and application, technical service and product marketing and management and undertake tasks in 1) industrial robot manufacturers: system designers, programmers, assemblers and debuggers of industrial robots and mechatronics equipment; 2) industrial robot salesmen: professional salesmen, after-sale technical service personnel and customer service personnel of industrial robots and mechatronics equipment; 3) industrial robot users: industrial robots and mechatronics equipment sales and after-sales technical service personnel, customer service personnel; and 4) self employment: electrical automation control, mechatronics equipment development, design, transformation and other projects of entrepreneurship. The jobs for robot engineering majors: debugging engineer, design application engineer, after-sale engineer, electrical engineer, research and application engineer.
